A Journey Into Vintage

Two years ago, while living in California, I began to work in a large vintage store in the Burbank area. Having studied costume design in college in Savannah, Georgia, I had always enjoyed period clothing and learning about styles of the past. Once working in the shop, however, I realized how much I loved the stories of the wearer of the clothing. I liked to think that clothes had the personalities of their previous owner, and this made it all a more personal experience to me.

I started seeking out vintage on my own. Through tips I learned from my manager and coworkers at work, to those I read online, I began to seek out whatever I could find in the stores located around me. Sometimes it was a win. Sometimes it was a lose. But every time, it was an experience.

Now, I find myself back in Savannah and ready to start a new chapter of my life. In just a few months, I will be starting my own vintage shop above an alterations studio of a friends. I am both excited and nervous about the endeavor. Nervous to be out on my own without a safety net, but excited to finally be pursuing a dream I have always wanted to fulfill.

I plan to capture in this blog my journey into starting a retail shop, as well as tips and tricks I've come across in my vintage findings. I hope that I can inspire those like me, those with a love and passion for vintage, those who want to share it with others, into doing just the same, on any scale.

It won't be easy, I know that, but any goal you don't have to work for isn't worth working for at all.
